ARCADIA #1 Comic Review | A World Without Humans… and a Beautiful New Species | Ignition Press
In this video, I review ARCADIA from Ignition Press, the stunning new
existential sci-fi comic by writer Roy Miranda, artist Inaki Miranda, colorist Eva De La Cruz, and letterer Dave Sharpe. This debut issue is one of the most visually imaginative and emotionally powerful new comics of the year.
The official premise sets the tone perfectly:
In a future where humanity has vanished, a new form of life rises from the ruins—the Serants, artificial beings born from mysterious technological chrysalises called Superdragons. Each Serant carries a Pearl, a biotechnological core that holds their consciousness, their memories… their soul.
Our protagonist, Halu, is a Serant who emerges late from a forgotten silo, only to be rescued by Weedy, a scavenger obsessed with the remnants of humanity. Soon after, Halu meets Fix, a luminous young mechanic who awakens something deep inside him. The trio journeys through a world of ruins, danger, and mystery, seeking connection, purpose, and the meaning of existence itself.
Arcadia blends gorgeous character designs, innovative world-building, emotional storytelling, and high-concept science fiction. It’s a story about what makes us human… even in a world where humans no longer exist.
In this review, I break down the character designs, the creative team’s world-building, the philosophical themes, and why Arcadia is a must-read comic for fans of deep sci-fi, indie comics, and visually rich storytelling.
